The NASPAG Program Committee invites you to submit abstracts pertinent to the field of pediatric and adolescent gynecology in the categories of original research or unique case reports/series. The body of the abstract is limited to 2,750 characters which may include up to two tables or figures. Abstracts submitted must contain original work, not published previously or presented at a meeting of another national or international scientific organization prior to this meeting, and must be approved by the local Institutional Review Board (IRB) or equivalent as required by your institution. . A Disclosure Declaration (i.e. conflict-of-interest form) which is included in the online Abstract Submitter must be completed for each author. Once completed, the forms can be faxed to Cassandra Larkins at (202) 554-0453. Abstracts must be submitted via the Elsevier website.

Letters regarding acceptance/rejection will be emailed to the presenting (first) author only beginning approximately December 7, 2009. If you do not receive notification of the status of your abstract by December 18, 2009, call Cassandra Larkins at (202) 863-1648. All decisions by the Program Committee are final.

GUIDELINES FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION:
- CONTENT
Preparation of Abstract
- AUTHORS MUST SUBMIT TWO COPIES OF THEIR ABSTRACTS, ONE COPY WITH AUTHORS AND INSTITUTIONS LISTED FOR PUBLICATION PURPOSES AND ANOTHER COPY WITHOUT AUTHORS OR INSTITUTIONS FOR REVIEWING/GRADING PURPOSES (BLINDED).
The heading of the abstract should follow this format:
- Title should appear in all capital letters.
- All authors with their degrees should be listed but titles, positions or appointments are not to be included (e.g., omit: Assistant Professor of..., or Director of Inpatient Services at...); underline the designated presenter's name. Reviewers will be blinded to the authors(s) and institution(s) so these names should not appear in the body of the abstract.
- The submitting author will receive all communication regarding acceptance or non-acceptance of the abstract. The presenting author should be underlined (may be someone different from the submitting or senior author). The senior author must be designated if different from submitting or presenting author.
- Institution where the research was done followed by city and state (and country, if not U.S.).
The unique case reports/series abstracts should be organized as follows:
The abstract should be organized into three sections each labeled in all capital letters and underlined:
- BACKGROUND - focused statement of 1-2 sentences, with additional sentence stating the objective or purpose of the study.
- CASE - description of up to ten cases of a condition that is unusual or instructive.
- COMMENTS - clinical significance of this case/condition.
The research abstracts should be organized as follows:
The abstract should be organized into four sections each labeled in capital letters and underlined as in the example below:
- BACKGOUND - focused statement of 1-2 sentences, with additional sentence stating the objective or purpose of the study
- METHODS - IRB, number of subjects, materials, procedures, statistical methods
- RESULTS - general statements such as "numerous" or "few" do not substitute for data, and "results will be discussed" does not allow reviewers to assess the merit of the study
- CONCLUSIONS - concentrating on data presented and based on original objective
Standard abbreviations, such as mg, g, %, STI may be used. Other abbreviations should be defined such as enzyme immunoassay (EIA).
- POSTER OR ORAL PRESENTATION
Abstracts will be considered for oral presentation unless the author designates "Poster Only" in the check box provided. Abstracts not selected for oral presentation will be considered for poster presentation.
Oral presentations will be 10 minutes in length followed by five minutes of discussion. PowerPoint and the use of LCD projection (no slides) will be supported. Audiovisual instructions will be available on the NASPAG Web site, www.NASPAG.org prior to the meeting.
Posters will be displayed on bulletin boards 4 feet high by 8 feet wide (1.2 m x 2.4 m). Detailed poster preparation instructions will be available on the NASPAG Web site prior to the meeting. (www.NASPAG.org)
- IDENTIFICATION
The presenting author (listed first on the abstract) MUST include his/her:
- name
- email address for abstract acceptance notification
- mailing address
- telephone
- fax number
Notifications will be sent electronically to the first author. The "Author Look-Up Site" noting the dates and times of the oral and poster presentations will be available on the NASPAG Web site, www.NASPAG.org prior to the meeting.
- NASPAG AWARDS
Abstract Committee is responsible for selecting the recipients of the following awards:
- Huffman-Capraro Award for the best oral research presentation by a trainee (Fellow, Resident and Student). Specific criteria relating to the Huffman-Capraro Award is described BELOW
Huffman-Capraro Award Eligibility & Selection Criteria
- The competition is open to students who are registered in an accredited medical or graduate school or doctoral level
graduates who are registered in an accredited residency or fellowship program.
- Eligibility is maintained for one (1) additional year following the completion of the above mentioned programs.
- To qualify, the student/resident/fellow must be the first author and presenter on the abstract submitted for presentation.
- The student/resident/fellow must participate in the study design and contribute significantly to the formulation of the null hypothesis, collection of data and data analysis.
- Priority will be given for experimental study designs and to prospective studies.
- An award of $1000 and a certificate will be presented to the award-winning presentation.
- The abstract must be accompanied by an electronic letter from the program director or department head attesting to the degree of involvement by the student/resident/fellow in the research and in the preparation of the abstract. YOU MUST SUBMIT THIS LETTER IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THE AWARD.
- Similarly, the abstract must be accompanied by a statement that the study represents original work, and was not previously presented or published.
- The author is expected to prepare a manuscript from this study which will be given priority consideration for publication in the official journal of NASPAG - The Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology.
- YOU MUST INDICATE DURING YOUR SUBMISSION, THAT YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS AWARD, BY ANSWERING YES OR NO TO THE APPROPRIATE QUESTION.
- Evelyn Green Laufer Award for the best oral presentation with cash prize.
- Sally E. Perlman Award for the best poster presentation as judged by the Abstract Committee prize: $250.00
All prize awards will be announced and the recipients recognized on the last day of the meeting.
